Lyndon Johnson $98 million
Lyndon Johnson got his fortune through his collaboration with the FCC and using them to benefit his wife’s radio station. Their monopoly of radio and television in Texas allowed the couple to amass a substantial fortune. He left the presidency and retired on his ranch where he enjoyed doing the things he loved, though many feel that the former president went on a self-destructive spiral.
Andrew Jackson $119 million
Andrew Jackson owes his wealth to the hard work of his slaves. He owned the Heritage which was a plantation that he expanded to 1,050 acres which was planted and harvested by as many as 300 slaves. When he retired after the presidency he retreated to his plantation helping to revive it after the mismanagement of his adopted son, Andrew Jr. He also stayed involved in politics, always letting his opinion be known, sometimes in controversial ways.
